Chief Pushmataha Bust
The bust in the lobby of the Antlers Library is a cast bronze image of Chief Pushmataha, after whom our county is named.
The bust was created in clay by Willard Stone and sent to the Roman Bronze Works in New York for casting. After casting just 16 busts, the mold was broken. The artist kept 8 of the pieces and the other 8 were owned by the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
In 1975, the city council appointed John Walker to raise the money to purchase one of the busts for display in Antlers. It took a few months to get the money together, but the bust was eventually purchased for $1416.25.
